Young people to explore future career paths at education event

HE Fair CarlisleOver 1200 school and college students from Carlisle, Penrith and the West of the County will be attending the annual Higher Education Convention at the Sands Centre on Friday 27th of June.

Delivered by Inspira, over 80 college and university exhibitors from all over the UK will be on hand giving young people the opportunity to find out what each institution has to offer, which courses have high success rates in getting students into jobs, how much it will cost to study and what facilities are available.
Admission to the event is free and there is no need to book.

Nicky Jackson, Area Manager for Inspira in Carlisle said, “I am delighted we are able to offer this opportunity for students to research their options and find out more about the courses and careers available. This is essential to making a well informed decision about whether higher education is the right choice.
The cost of study may be a significant factor for some students, so thinking about whether to attend local higher education provision rather than a university in a big city, where the cost of living will be higher, needs to be taken into account.”

Mike Priestley, Area Manager in the west of the county continued, “Students also need to consider if there are all the facilities available that they require and if a big or small campus would suit them best. For some courses, such as veterinary science, there are only 12 institutions in England offering this qualification, so choices are immediately limited.”

Higher Education is one avenue which young people can follow to gain qualifications. Apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular as they offer young people the opportunity to gain a qualification whilst working and earning.

Inspira is the leading career management and personal development organisation based in Cumbria. Inspira delivers Advice Services centres in Workington, Whitehaven and Carlisle, as well as Barrow and Kendal. The services and programmes run by Inspira helps young people and adults build skills for life and employment.

Running in conjunction to this event is the University of Cumbria’s seminar held at the Brampton Road Campus, on offer is advice on student life, finance, how to write a personal statement and how to choose the right University/College.
