Volunteers required as Independent Supporters

Inspira is recruiting part-time volunteers to act as Independent Supporters for young people with SEN and their parents and carers.

Changes to the Children and Families Act 2014, has resulted in significant transformations to the way children and young people with special educational needs are supported.

Previously, the required support for a child was set out in a statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN), however, under the new legislation, these statements will be replaced by Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.

Throughout Cumbria, Inspira and Cumbria Parent Partnership Service are delivering Independent Support, a national programme, in which volunteers are available to offer impartial advice to families, and help with the assessment and transition process from the statement of SEN to the new EHC plan.
